Minor Gold are an Americana-Folk duo featuring ARIA nominated artists Tracy McNeil & Dan Parsons. Having shared hundreds of stages together for the better part of a decade as respective songwriters and performers, becoming a duo (in life and on stage) was inevitable. Thus, Minor Gold was born.
Their sound is replete with masterful harmonies, deft guitar playing with dynamics ranging from the intense restraint of campfire intimacy through to open throttle abandon. We hear the hedonistic groove of early 70’s cosmic Americana, the daydream haze of 60’s folk, and the power and romance of 80’s pop but despite the classic references of yore, it’s undeniably music written for the here and now. Their first album, written while enduring the Covid lockdown, is delightful, breezy, and full of songs of love and respect, dreams and yearning. It is a folksy offering with overtones of Simon and Garfunkel, a slice of Graham Nash-sounding harmony and some retro 70s and 80s production – a little something for everyone!
If Minor Gold have a superpower, it’s their melodic vocal interplay and sixth-sense harmonies. There is a lush swell and sway as their voices intertwine, constantly throwing out sublime hooks. Among the names often invoked when trying to describe the sound of Minor Gold are Paul Simon, Gillian Welch, Neil Young, and, according to Loud Mouth Magazine, “…like Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham at the top of their game.”
“Beautifully warm collections of songs… cleverly not over-stuffed with instrumentation…if you like Tom Petty, Crosby Still and Nash, Nick Drake and Bruce Springsteen then I think you will like what they are doing” – ABC Radio Sydney
“Minor Gold – both the band and their album – are a breath of fresh air, standing on the merits of their songwriting and chemistry to deliver a beautifully refreshing collection of songs that further solidifies the importance of never missing an opening act.” – American Blues Scene
